I spoke to someone who has worked with the elderly all their life and took some notes. It became clear that there is a correlation between transport advancing and the loneliness of the elderly.
- Family members move and they don't see them.
- A lady has some friends, they used to go out socialising together, holidays etc. but one by one they all died.
- She had a son but he moved away so didn't see him.
- A lot of the ladies in particular don't like how they have lost their routine and find it degrading when their children and grandchildren look after them.
Hearing first hand views on what the elderly feel - how / why they are lonely was really useful and sad. It enabled me to have a clearer, more in depth understanding of the issue and how important it is.
