The idea of looking at baking (something that a lot of us relate to the elderly) and conveying loneliness in that is an idea that interests me.
Also knitting / cross stitch / embroidery as this enables a more physical outcome as well as possibly portraying the message clearer through imagery and / or type embroidered. This also works well as our initial thoughts with the elderly creating any sort of textiles are usually positive, however this could link to the notes left in Primark clothes saying 'SOS' 'forced to work exhausting hours' as there could also be a hidden message within the embroidery or cross stitch.
Possible textile outcomes:
- embroider into a handkerchief
- cross stitch into fabric in frame
- cross stitch onto cushion
- embroider into a doily
The idea of creating a ceramic outcome is also an option - conveying loneliness through an ornament relating to the ones a lot of older people keep on their shelves. This could be done by making only one from a set, or simply an elderly person on their own as an ornament.
